While some anglers may have already committed their gear to storage and many have moved on to other pursuits afield, great opportunities still await for those who are willing to hang in there just a little longer. In fact, we think some of the best fishing is yet to come!

Regions across the state are reporting that with cooler temperatures, trout and salmon are feeding at the surfaces and tending towards the shorelines of Maine?s waters. If it is salmon that you are specifically after, be sure to focus your attention near the mouth of streams where they will be seeking out moving water as they look to spawn.

If you are planning on heading out, please keep in mind the following:


* During the fall months there are special regulations in place as some species are spawning, so be sure to consult the?2022 Open Water and Ice Fishing Laws [ [link removed] ] before you go.
* Be prepared by dressing in layers and always wear a life jacket when on the water.?
* With the start of fall, many hunters will also be sharing the woods and waterways, so please be mindful and courteous of others. Also, wearing an article of bright clothing will help to increase visibility.
