What to Know About Accessing Disaster Relief: Statement from DHS
In light of Hurricane Ian, PIF would like to remind the community that accessing disaster relief, including shelter, emergency supplies, food, and water continues to be safe for immigrants to access. As a reminder, the Biden Administration's recent public charge regulation [[link removed]] protects immigrants' right to access social services and safety net programs.
The Department of Homeland Security's recent statement regarding hurricane relief affirms that public emergency response sites are considered protected areas for immigrants. Immigrant families can access these benefits and emergency services without fear of immigration repercussions.
