Earlier this week, in partnership with her sister-in-service Rep. Cori Bush, Ayanna introduced the Reproductive Health Care Accessibility Act. This critical bill will make it easier for people with disabilities to access the reproductive health care they’ve long been denied.
People living with disabilities have historically faced some of the severest structural barriers to accessing reproductive health care — from discrimination and a lack of inclusion of people with disabilities in the health care workforce to financial and physical challenges.
As a result, people with disabilities are less likely to receive contraception counseling and timely prenatal care and are at a greater risk for adverse pregnancy outcomes.
The overturning of Roe v. Wade has only exacerbated this injustice and further endangered lives. And we know that far-right politicians will stop at nothing to strip away our bodily autonomy and push our most vulnerable communities even further to the margins.
Together, we’ll keep up the fight for equitable access to reproductive care for all.
