Dear John,

The event will feature a panel discussion with local leaders involved with the disability community as well as the premiere of a filmed interview with Judy Heumann, disability rights activist.
About one in four US adults and two in five adults ages sixty-five and older have a disability. The October 2022
edition of Health Affairs is all about disability and health.
Mitra and coauthors write that "rates of disability are increasing with the aging of the US population, rising rates of chronic conditions among the nonelderly population, and more recently the COVID-19 pandemic."
The authors report that living with one or more disabilities is associated with higher rates of reporting poor health, experiencing chronic health conditions, and experiencing injuries and intimate partner and interpersonal violence relative to non-disabled
people.
Mitra and coauthors also recommend policy changes to advance equity and reduce disparities for all people with disabilities in the US including expanding access to health care coverage, extending Medicaid buy-in programs, and expanding access to home and community-based services.
To dive deeper into the research and ideas published in the issue, join us for our remaining October events happening throughout the
month.
Today in Forefront, Richard Hughes IV and coauthors discus the privacy implications of state retention policies and uses of dried blood spots retained after newborn screenings.
