John, happy World Teachers Day!
If you know me, you know that I am deeply proud of my time as an educator in New York. I've been blessed enough to work with the most incredible teachers throughout my career and I've seen just how impactful educators, teachers, counselors, and mentors are in shaping the hearts and minds of our students.
As a student, my favorite teacher was my 5th and 6th grade teacher, Ms. James. Every day, she showed me and all of her students the care, appreciation, and the attention we needed to succeed — even when times were tough. In one word: empathy.
As we continue to shape the democracy and economy that supports all of us where we need — I want all of us to remember what it looks like to lead and live by empathy and compassion, just like how our favorite teachers showed us each and every day.
Teachers, especially in public schools, have changed and saved millions of lives. Their work is what love looks like in action. Teachers have been on the frontlines of the global pandemic and have continually faced political attacks from the right just for simply doing their jobs. And at every turn, teachers have adapted and adjusted to ensure that our children have the support and education they deserve.
In Congress, I will continue to be a voice for educators and students alike to ensure that we are all well resourced, represented, and supported on a federal level. But I can only do that with your support and faith in our movement.
Now more than ever it's crucial that we support the work of educators and uplift their efforts. If you are ready to fight to ensure that care work and care providers like teachers, educators, mentors, and counselors are at the forefront of our work, chip in today to help support our collective movement.
Thank you for supporting our work, I am continually grateful for every educator who dedicates their lives and time to supporting the youth in our communities.
Peace, love, and Happy World Teachers Day!
