Friends,
My family knows firsthand what it is like to lose someone unjustly.
My cousin, Emmett Till, was murdered at the age of 14. After allegedly whistling at a white woman (she later admitted this was a completely fabricated story), her family acted upon her lie and kidnapped Emmett from his uncle’s house in the middle of the night. He was brutally beaten, shot, and lynched. Too many families have a similar story to mine. That’s why we need representatives who are ready to stand up to injustice and fight to prevent tragedies from happening in the first place through education and advocacy.
One of the many reasons I decided to run for Congress to represent District 5 is that in 2022, 67 years after Emmett's death we finally passed the Emmett Till Anti Lynching Act. We need real leaders who will put forth practical solutions to solve problems not sit on their hands or play politics to stay in power. We will only make progress if we speak up, unite, organize, vote, pass laws, and hold our leaders accountable. We cannot do that without your help. We have to literally put our money where our mouths are. Will you join me?
