About
: The high cost of rent has made it difficult for ordinary Angelenos to afford to live in our great city. As newcomers and locals fight over a dwindling supply of homes, homelessness has skyrocketed and tents have cropped up on every corner. The good news is that a new coalition of pro-housing advocates have cropped up in the past decade. Connected by the internet and united against the high cost of rent, the YIMBY movement has passed a number of important statewide bills in recent years. Now it's time to focus on LA's specific housing problems. The LA New Liberals will be hosting several pro-housing city council candidates in order to discuss the difficulties of organizing around housing in LA, as well as opportunities for advocates to get involved.

Is technology developing too quickly and exposing us to existential risk?

Slouching Towards Utopia ft. Brad DeLong
The world is so much richer than it was 150 years ago that past generations might look at society today and declare it a utopia. But how did we get here, and are we really living in utopia? Economist Brad DeLong joins the podcast to discuss his new book, Slouching Towards Utopia. We discuss the key factors that allowed economic growth to explode around 1870, why Brad builds a grand narrative around the 'long 20th century', and why economic growth is the most important lens for understanding human history in the last 150 years.

Debating Congress’ Big Bills ft. Ben Ritz
Jeremiah is joined by Ben Ritz to debate the politics and policy behind Congress's recent slew of big bills - the CHIPS Act, the Inflation Reduction Act, and the PACT Act. We discuss all this and more!
