Dear Reader,
Our democracy is suffering from an information crisis.
Several factors contribute to it. But the big picture implications are what trouble me the most . . . and why I urge you to join the Ballotpedia Society today.
-
Major news deserts caused by local newspaper closures are creating a news deficit for millions of Americans.
-
National races and politics-as-spectator-sport have sucked up more and more oxygen online.
-
Local elections often have poorly publicized registration deadlines and voting schedules.
So what? Well, for starters, turnout in local elections continues to decline. Oftentimes, people don’t even know when or where to vote.
It’s no stretch to say that this low turnout is a major factor contributing to the rising polarization and deepening divisions we see in American politics today.
This is just one of the many reasons it’s crucial that America’s voters have clear, concise, and unbiased information about the candidates and issues on their ballots.
As a member of the Ballotpedia Society, your tax deductible contribution can help make that happen!
Any recurring gift—of any amount—will help provide voters with the insights and information they need to participate actively in local politics.
Voting outcomes won’t necessarily reflect the will of the people; and Americans will fail to see how much fundamental agreement we have on a great many matters.
You don’t want that. Neither do I.
Please join the Ballotpedia Society to solve the political information problem in America today.
Sincerely,
Leslie Graves
President & CEO
P.S.
