AUGUSTA, Maine ? The fourth?2022 Fall Foliage Report?from the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry (DACF) reports moderate to high color change (50-70 percent) throughout most of Maine. As of October 5, 2022, Maine Forest Rangers in northern and western Maine report peak color conditions (75-100 percent) with low leaf drop.?
Northern Maine (zones six and seven) is on track to reach peak conditions this week. Fall colors in all other areas of the state will occur from north to south through mid-October. Coastal Maine typically reaches peak color during mid-to-late October.

"The peak conditions projected for this upcoming long holiday weekend set us up for one of the best weekends to plan your fall foliage leaf peeping trip to your favorite destinations. The canopies across Maine are showing off their most vibrant colors! The leaves are still clinging to the trees with low leaf drop throughout Maine, which makes for perfect timing for our leaf enthusiasts," said Gale Ross, Maine's fall foliage spokesperson.

Follow the 2022 Maine Fall Foliage Forecast and take advantage of these event and activity tips and ideas for colorful road trips throughout Maine:
- This weekend is the Damariscotta Pumpkinfest & Regatta?, featuring a giant pumpkin weigh-off, parade, and the much-anticipated Regatta.
- While out and about leaf peeping, stop by a participating sugar house to celebrate the season and all things maple at the Maine Maple Fall Fest. Stock up on delicious maple products, participate in tours, and enjoy other maple fun.
- Peak conditions at Sunday River add to the excitement of the Fall Festival this Saturday and Sunday. Enjoy the craft fair, scenic chairlift rides for autumn views from above, the New England Cornhole Championship, and the North American Wife Carrying Championship.
- This Sunday, the Maine Fiber Trails & Tours will provide the opportunity to learn more about Maine-grown fiber and explore the craft of local fiber production.

Maine's Lakes and Mountains region of the state is alive with brilliant foliage for this weekend's fall adventurers. Head to the state's westernmost region to partake in Sunday River's Fall Festival or to drive along Rangeley Lakes National Scenic Byway, following Routes 17 and 4, for a 52-mile drive around Rangeley Lake for colorful lake and mountainous photo opportunities. For a great place to stretch your legs, make a pit stop at the height of Land, a scenic lookout on Route 17 with postcard-worthy views of Mooselookmeguntic and Upper Richardson lakes. For a moderate two-mile hike ideal for foliage peeping and a view-filled summit picnic spot, plan to visit Bald Mountain in Oquossoc.
