FALLING INTO ACTION
Our Fall has been packed with preparing for our civic leadership programs and getting our fall activities in motion. This included our financial empowerment workshops in partnership with J.P. Morgan Chase. Over 30 women signed up to take a three-series course on topics of credit, savings, how to use an ATM, and more.
We continued our voter registration drives at various community events. As the November elections come up, we want to make sure our communities are prepared to make the right decisions for our democracy.
This year, we were so excited to re-start our 17 year old tradition of holding the September 11th Children of Abraham Peace Walk. Instead of a walk, we held a vigil, coming together after two years of hiatus. We were joined by our interfaith allies at the Congregation of Beit Simchat Torah and the Interfaith Center of NY, as well as the African Life Center. The Peace Walk commemorates the violence and divisions that erupted in our country after 9/11, and calls for working together for building peace! We thank all of our partners for joining us on this important day.
Next up, as September is UN Week, MCN was present at various international events to help bring the voices of Muslim narratives to the table. MCN commemorated the International Day of Peace at the UN General Assembly Side Event “Pathways to Respect”, hosted by Ambassador at Large for International Religious Freedom, Rashad Hussain. Pictured below is our Program Coordinator, Ajifanta Marenah with our friends from The World Evangelical Alliance.
Here we are with Ms. Faatiha Ayat, a former youth speaker at MCN's Refugee Day, Faatiha delivered a powerful speech at the Concordia's Annual Summit in New York.
Community safety is something that we take very seriously. With our partnership with Hope Against Hate Campaign, MCN held a successful community safety training for girls at Muslim Student Associations. In partnership with MALIKAH, we delivered the training to more than a dozen young women.
And finally, a big shout out to our friends at MUPPIES NYC for joining us at our monthly interfaith soup kitchen at the Church of Holy Trinity. Together, we cooked fresh hot meals for the needy and put our faith into action!
As you can see friends, MCN is filling an important role in our community. From establishing partnerships and leveraging each other's strengths, to helping shape the narrative on issues that have impacted our communities the most! We are working on exciting new projects that are sure to make a mark on the Muslim American experience in our country. Please help support building this community by attending our gala on Nov. 22nd, 2022, or by making a donation to our cause.
Institution building is not easy, and we all need to invest in ensuring we leave something for generations to come.
MCN is a trusted organization in our community as detailed by Charity Navigator and Guidestar.
Therefore, please give with confidence to MCN. It is with your support that we can build a Muslim civil-society-based institution advancing the narrative for Muslim Americans. Please consider a donation of $50, $100, $250, $500 to help us continue building a Muslim institution that empowers our community!
With Gratitude,
Aniqa Nawabi
