Last week HFA staff and members of our Food Action Board ([link removed]) traveled to Washington D.C. for the White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health, the first such conference in over 50 years! We are proud to have advocated strongly for this conference, and even prouder that so many of our recommendations ([link removed]) were adopted by the White House in their National Strategy ([link removed]) .

We have always believed that the people most affected by hunger must be the ones guiding policy, which is why we were so excited to be able to bring several of our Food Action Board Members to Washington. The FAB Members spoke about their experiences and what they believe needs to be done to end hunger in this country.

A Day of Service
Ahead of the White House Conference, Hunger Free America hosted a Day of Service, in partnership with DC Public Schools and a number of local nonprofits.

Volunteers did farm work, packed bags of food, and hit the streets to distribute fliers about food assistance to local businesses and community members. The Day of Service provided a unique opportunity to see firsthand the impact of our nation’s government food benefits programs, to hear directly from people who have been affected by hunger and food insecurity, and to offer assistance to people in need.

Become a Hunger Advocate
Join Hunger Free America in creating a people's movement to end hunger and push for the economic and public policies needed to eliminate domestic hunger and ensure that all Americans have sufficient access to nutritious food. Working directly with the Advocacy, Policy, and Research Department, volunteers will play a crucial role in researching, communicating, and promoting HFA's policy positions.

Healthy Meals, Healthy Kids

Here at HFA we are advocating for an important piece of legislation that will deliver a comprehensive, science-driven reauthorization of federal child nutrition programs that meets the needs of children and families.
The bill would:
* Expand access to school meals
* Preserve the future of school meal programs
* Modernize the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC)
* Provide additional funding to the USDA's Hunger Hotline, managed by Hunger Free America
* Address food insecurity during the summer
* Improve school meal capacity and sustainability
* Strengthen the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP
