Friends, here are the three most important things we need you to know right now:

1. Since September 12, the security situation has dramatically worsened in Haiti following a government announcement that fuel subsidies were ending. Violence, protests, roadblocks, damaged communications infrastructure, and fuel shortages pose grave operational and logistical challenges for Zanmi Lasante, as PIH is known in Haiti. 

2. The instability leaves the people we serve at increased risk of injury and illness. As employers and social services close down, families are running out of food and medicine. Health care services are even more important.

3. We aren’t going anywhere. Zanmi Lasante is a Haitian organization, led and run by Haitians. Not one of Zanmi Lasante’s 17 facilities has been forced to close at the time of writing. These facilities are relied upon by 1.3 million people—or 1 in 10 Haitians—and the fact that they are still open and providing care has been the difference between life and death for many.
