Congresswoman Bush is getting ready to take to the road this weekend, leading the transformative Roe The Vote: Reproductive Freedom Tour across Missouri. I want to take a moment to talk about the strategy behind these critical rallies for a minute because I think it’s an important message for the Democratic Party to hear.
The fight for reproductive freedom is not simply a political one; it’s a moral one. And fighting for what’s morally right — fighting for true justice for all — also happens to be good politics.
The idea for a state-wide tour focused on abortion rights across the battleground state of Missouri didn’t come from a consultant; it didn’t even come from myself, a member of our team, or even the state or national Democratic Party — it came directly from Cori herself.
With Cori’s authentic leadership, we are showing up across the Show Me State to make sure that every voter knows we are the pro-human rights, pro-bodily autonomy, pro-reproductive freedom party fighting to protect and expand fundamental rights for all.
Missouri was the first state to enact a statewide trigger ban, stripping millions of people of their basic human rights, and, right now, Democrats across our communities need our help.
Our state is in danger of having a Republican supermajority in the state legislature, which means that passing one of the country’s most oppressive abortion bans could just be the beginning. But we have hope because we know how to win.
Across the country, we’re witnessing a multi-cultural, multi-generational, and multi-racial rebuke to the far-right extremist Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade.
States that have previously been written off as “Red” by career strategists are taking bold stands to protect their reproductive freedom, as did our neighbors in so-called “deep red” Kansas.
All weekend we will be taking to the streets of Missouri to spread this message. We’re working with key partner organizations, elected officials, and candidates across Missouri to spread this message of love and justice.
