John, The Supreme Court resumes reviewing cases this week, starting with arguments in a case that could further degrade the Voting Rights Act of 1965. The Justices’ decision has the potential to grant states the power to gerrymander their congressional maps in ways that deliberately disenfranchise voters of color, further eroding our democracy. For years, conservative activists, legislators, and corporate-backed lobbies have worked to expand right-wing influence on the Court, subverting a nonpartisan institution and placing our democracy on the brink of disaster. Congress must rectify this issue by passing the Judiciary Act, which would add four seats to the Supreme Court and block the far-right ideologues ripping apart our country. Sign if you agree: To restore the legitimacy of the Supreme Court, protect our democracy, and secure the rights of the American people, Congress must pass the Judiciary Act and expand the Supreme Court. Congress has changed the number of justices before. It can do so again, and it must do so now. Expanding the Court will begin to restore some balance, safeguarding our nation by adding to the bench nonpartisan justices who believe in America’s core values. Sign the petition: Congress must pass the Judiciary Act and expand the Supreme Court. In solidarity, Free Speech For People |
