The Department of Justice recently unsealed charges alleging roughly $250
million in United States Department of Agriculture funds were fraudulently
claimed by Feeding Our Future and numerous individuals connected with the
organization.



This revelation is profoundly unsettling. It’s not only a massive misuse of
federal funds, but it was also channeled through an organization whose mission
is to feed hungry children and seniors.



Since these are USDA funds, it is incumbent upon Congress to act. That’s why I
took swift action to investigate whether proper safeguards are in place to
protect taxpayer funds from future fraud and abuse.



My Minnesota colleagues and the appropriate ranking committee members joined
me in sending a letter to the USDA demanding answers.It’s imperative that we
conduct a thorough examination of programs that either are or could be
exploited by fraud.



It has become all the more evident that federal agencies are guilty of
mismanaging funds, throwing millions of taxpayer dollars down the drain.
