This past weekend, Michelle Steel sent out some pretty disgusting doctored mailers painting Jay as a communist sympathizer. Instead of running a campaign in the real world or engaging with real issues, Steel resorts to lies.

The mailers were outright lies aimed at raising McCarthyist suspicions and stoking fear and division. It’s disgraceful – especially considering Jay Chen is Lieutenant Commander in the Navy Reserves whose grandmother fled from Communist China.

This is part of a broader trend of anti-Asian, race-based attacks being normalized by the Republican Party. Like Donald Trump, Steel has no issue slandering an American who served to score cheap political points and causing further harm to our Asian communities in the process.
