Folks, there’s no better way to kick off LGBTQ History Month than by celebrating Pride in Asheville with Meg and the kids.
In a moment, I’ll share what it’s like to run against an anti-LGBTQ GOP opponent as a gay woman in the South. But first, I have to ask if you will chip in a $10 donation today to protect our rights?
We’re living through a moment when two things are true: there are unprecedented levels of support for LGBTQ people and youth in the South, but we’re also seeing, in many ways, an unprecedented level of political attack, particularly on LGBTQ youth.
On a very personal level, it keeps me up at night.
We need leaders who will defend our rights. Leaders who will make our communities a safe place where all of us are free to be who we are and love who we love.
My opponent Chuck Edwards is not that person. Instead, he has helped pass “Don’t Say Gay” legislation in the North Carolina state Senate – making it clear that he would not be a vote in Congress to codify the freedom to marry the person you love.
Unlike my opponent, I’m not your typical career politician and this is not your typical campaign. I’m running on the values of love, hope, and empathy to deliver real leadership to WNC. And I’ll do whatever it takes to defeat my GOP opponent who wants to force the government into the most private and important parts of our lives.
While October is a month for honoring LGBTQ history, it’s also the last full month we have to connect with voters across NC-11 before Election Day. Can I count on you to chip in $10 or more today to help me defend our rights in Congress?
