John,

My name is Emily, I’m 22, and I’m writing from Bozeman, Montana. While many of us are taking time off this week as we enter the last week of the year, my friends and I are hitting the phones, asking for donations to start our own Sunrise movement house. And on behalf of my hub and every Sunrise hub in the country, I’m asking you to give today, too -- this time directly to a hub near you.

Our hubs are the backbone of our movement, powering our local organizing in every corner of the U.S. Nearly 300 in number, they're the on-the-ground organizers planning climate strikes, asking politicians tough questions, and registering voters.

Your local Sunrise hub is what builds the movement for a Green New Deal where you live. So can you chip today in to help hubs in District of Columbia take their work to the next level?

I’m writing because I know just how much this kind of support would help my hub in Bozeman.

Sometimes it feels like small towns and rural states are left out of the climate movement. Here in Montana, we’re seen as too rural and conservative to ever get behind a Green New Deal. But I know that’s not true. Young people flipped Gallatin County blue in the 2016 election, and I’ve seen how the message of a Green New Deal resonates with so many of my neighbors and friends—regardless of party or ideology.

But the vision of the Green New Deal won’t stick unless we make serious investments in our local communities to prepare them for action at the climate strikes and the polls.

That’s why I’ve gotten 8 of my friends together to help plan Montana’s first Sunrise movement house, to spend all the time I can building a community of young people ready to put their lives on hold to take escalated action and elect leaders who will fight for our futures. We’re planning to help flip the Montana senate and organize 10,000 young people to go on strike in Bozeman, but our hub and hubs across the country like us can’t do it without your help.

I know your local hub has big plans, too. All they need now are the resources to put them into action.

Today, Sunrise is sending all of our donations to local hubs. Can you chip in today to support our work building local grassroots power where you live?

It’s been so inspiring to see my community come together to support our work, and to see young people realize that my state can be a leader in social and climate justice. As we enter the new year, communities like mine are counting on your support to power our local organizing across our country.

Thanks,

Emily Lashelle
