From Refugee to Employee to College Student
One of the best parts about working at USCRI is connecting refugees to fulfilling jobs in the U.S. We are so proud of Alain, a refugee from the Congo, who just received an Employee of the Month award for his work as a houseman at the Sheraton hotel in Erie, PA. Alain’s whole family is working hard at the Sheraton: his mother and sister work in housekeeping and his younger sister worked there during the summer while on break from school.
"USCRI was my first stop in Erie," says Alain. "They connected me to a job. I wanted to work somewhere that I could practice my English, so the position they found me in the hospitality field was the perfect place."
And even more exciting, Alain has been accepted to Penn State Harrisburg and will be studying civil engineering starting in January! "Civil engineering allows me to engage with people and the community," says Alain. "I was in my final year of studying to be an engineer in Uganda before I came to the U.S."

GIVE TODAY ([link removed])
Refugees are required to become financially independent within 6 months of arriving in the U.S., not an easy task for someone who doesn't speak English and often has spent many years in a refugee camp. This is where USCRI comes in, providing English classes and training in workplace expectations and specific job skills. Last year, 91% of the refugees in our employment program found full-time jobs, with a average wage of $10.98/hour.
Please donate to USCRI and help people like Alain build a new life - a life of dignity that includes meaningful employment and access to education.
