Murphy Opinion: End the 'Public Health Emergency' and Biden's abuse of authority

The Trump administration effectively used the Public Health Emergency executive powers to lead the world in the fight against COVID-19, forge an unprecedented public-private partnership to fund the development of therapeutics, and safeguard healthcare workers. There was a time and a place for such executive power, as with any catastrophic event.

Yet more than a year into the Biden administration, the Public Health Emergency remains in effect for all the wrong reasons. What once was a genuine, necessary, and effective policy measure to combat the COVID-19 pandemic has been weaponized into a disingenuous, counterfeit policy trick for Biden to overstep his legal authority and legislate from the executive branch. Murphy Announces $24,700 Rural Development Grant for Duplin County

I'm excited to share that this week, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) approved a $24,700 grant for the Greenevers Volunteer Fire Department, Inc. in Duplin County. The funding will be used to purchase new firefighting equipment including pagers, portable radios, turnout gear, and self-contained breathing apparatus face masks.

It is imperative that our rural fire departments have the resources they need to protect our communities and save lives. This Rural Development grant is a huge win for Duplin County, as it will help better prepare our firefighters and county residents with cutting edge technology and safety equipment in case of emergency. This is a much-needed investment in Eastern North Carolina.
