The Marc Mauer Racial Justice Award is bestowed on an individual who significantly advances understanding and engagement on issues of race and mass incarceration. The awardee also nominates a nonprofit organization of their choice to receive special recognition.
This year's awardees are David Singleton, Executive Director of Ohio Justice & Policy Center, and Gideon’s Promise.
[[link removed]] David A. Singleton received his law degree from Harvard Law School in 1991, and his A.B. in Economics and Public Policy from Duke University in 1987. After moving to Cincinnati in 2001, David practiced at Thompson Hine until 2002, when he became the Executive Director of the Cincinnati-based Ohio Justice & Policy Center. David is also a Professor of Law at NKU Chase College of Law, where he teaches the Constitutional Litigation Clinic, Criminal Law, and Criminal Procedure.
Gideon’s Promise is a nonprofit public defender organization whose mission is to transform the criminal justice system by building a movement of public defenders who provide equal justice for marginalized communities.
