Pacific Justice Institute has just been invited into another David vs. Goliath battle, this time to help the pro-life community in a way that is humbling, sobering, and has the potential to be far-reaching.
As you know, as a society, we are facing the full fury of an abortion industry that is out for blood. Now, the State of California has launched a brazen attack against the pro-life pregnancy clinics that are succeeding in giving women and their babies hope, seeking to destroy pro-life ministries across the state.
Just this past month, the Office of the California Attorney General unleashed a barrage of subpoenas against a courageous pro-life clinic that has been saving lives for many years. The state laws authorizing such investigations are shockingly broad. There are no allegations or indications here that the clinic has done anything wrong. Rather, this is a tool that can be used by devious politicians like the Attorney General to trap their enemies in an extensive web of regulations, where the slightest misstep can result in fines and criminal prosecutions. So, the clinic turned to PJI for help and we are now hard at work on their defense to strategically counter this attack.

The good news is that we’ve taken on this Goliath before … and won! Just a few years ago, lawmakers in Sacramento enacted Assembly Bill 775. This undisguised attack on pro-life clinics tried to force them to promote abortion—the very evil they exist to oppose! We battled AB 775 at every stage of the federal courts until the U.S. Supreme Court dealt a mortal blow to this outrageous and unconstitutional bill.
And more recently, we’ve successfully opposed many of the other objectives of this diabolical plan in the Legislature through our Center for Public Policy by forcing powerful politicians to retreat from or scale back their original proposals. Still, California is determined to become an “abortion sanctuary” and to crush voices of conscience like these pro-life clinics.
But, we need you now like never before. Standing up for pro-life clinics like this one constitutes an enormous undertaking of both time and treasure. And it is undoubtedly just the beginning of a campaign the pro-abortion forces are planning to launch all over California, and in blue states and cities all across our nation. And PJI is perfectly positioned to win these battles through our 26 offices, staffed with PJI attorneys in 20 states... Not to mention the hundreds of affiliate attorneys we have at our disposal, allowing us to protect pro-life pregnancy centers in every state in the US.
