Christmas is the celebration of God’s love in sending His Son into the world that the world through Him might be saved (John 3:16-7) for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23).
Just as the star of Bethlehem led the shepherds to the baby in the manger, darkness in the world magnifies the Light of the Lord (John 8:12) and leads us to look upward to Him, to His great love, His amazing grace, His direction for each day, and His joy in the midst of life’s challenges.
Jesus Christ taught that we are to love not just our neighbors but our enemies (Matt 5:43-48), and to pray for those who persecute us while speaking His truth in love (Eph. 4:15), and to be the salt and light (Matt. 5:13-16), and to occupy until He comes (Luke 19:12-13). How is this possible? Personally, not in our strength, but only through Him. Nationally, only through revival (II Chron. 7:14)
Christmas comes but once a year; yet those who accept Jesus Christ as their Savior can know His love and His indwelling presence all year long and throughout eternity. Christmas lights pierce the darkness to remind us that Jesus reigns with the Father as the Sovereign Creator of the Universe. Now this really is cause for celebration!
