One by one, Southern Resident killer whales are disappearing.
With three deaths over the past year, just 73 now remain.
If we don't act now, these unique, fish-eating orcas could be gone forever within a generation.

These whales, who live in the waters of the Salish Sea and along the Pacific Coast, face lethal threats from all directions.
Malnutrition is leaving them too weak to survive.
Oil spills are a risk when ships sink, as one did this summer.
And noise from vessels — even when they don't sink — disturbs the whales and interferes with their hunting for food, leading to further starvation.
These orcas are on the brink: Earlier this year their population hit an almost 50-year low. The K pod is at its lowest number in two decades. And the L pod hit its lowest mark since the count began in 1976.
We're in court to make the Environmental Protection Agency keep dangerous levels of cyanide from being discharged by industry in orca habitat.
And we're pushing NOAA Fisheries to create a Whale Protection Zone for the orcas.
We secured additional critical habitat for these whales last year, but much more needs to be done to save them.
They need to focus on feeding, resting, and communicating — not fleeing vessels, noise and oil. Each and every orca is precious — we can't let the Southern Residents vanish.
