I wanted to take a moment and express my sincere gratitude to everyone who contributed toward last week’s end-of-quarter deadline. With your help, we met our goal and will be submitting our strongest fundraising report to date. That’s a huge momentum boost going into this final month.

That’s the good news.

The bad news is that we didn’t have much time to celebrate. This weekend, we found out that Michelle Steel is now sending out hateful, red-baiting mailers accusing me of trying to brainwash students with Communist propaganda.

These attacks are offensive to me and my entire family.

I'm an intelligence officer in the United States Navy Reserves and hold a top-secret security clearance. My grandmother also escaped communist China -- so to call these attacks disingenuous would be an understatement.

We need to call this what it is: McCarthyism and anti-Asian racism. But this is what we get from extremists like Steel. Just like Donald Trump, she wants to plant racist biases in voters' heads that not only score cheap political points, but have contributed to the rise in violent, anti-Asian hate crimes across the country.
