JIM COSTA RESIGNS
from Showing up to Debate
Statement from Former Law Enforcement Officer and Navy Veteran Michael Maher
Last night I was informed that my opponent, Jim Costa, will not be showing up to debate me. I was scheduled to debate Jim Costa on Monday, October 3rd, at 6:30 p.m. at the American Legion Post 509 in Fresno. The debate was to be hosted by the Central Valley Veterans Political Action Alliance, which has a long-established history of hosting Congressional, U.S. Senate, and Gubernatorial candidate debates. Costa has participated numerous times in their debates, and his staff is well aware of this organization. This debate has been put off and pushed back far too many times, and my campaign was given no justifiable reason for Costa’s absence. Congress is currently out of session, and Costa’s schedule should allow him to appear before his constituents and my fellow veterans.
Jim Costa has a long track record of not showing up for the people; he will likely continue to not show up for debates, just like he has been absent for the people he represents on crucial, pressing issues: lowering the cost of gas, groceries, and utilities; addressing out-of-control inflation; tackling the ever-growing homelessness crisis; dealing with increasing crime, and the tidal wave of fentanyl hitting our streets, which is taking so many lives.
Whether or not Jim Costa chooses to debate me, this is another excellent example of his lack of concern for the people he represents. We, the people, remain a means to an end for him to hold on to power for his pleasure.
P.S. The event location will remain open, and we are encouraged to show up. I will be there to answer questions tonight so the public and our veterans may learn more about me and my vision for delivering a better future. I am looking forward to seeing everyone, Republican, Democrat, Independent, NPP, and whoever wants to come together to help build a brighter future.
