Thank you so much for your steadfast support – and a special thank you if you were one of the hundreds of People For members who stepped up with a contribution to our end-of-fiscal-year campaign. We’re only able to do the important work of defending freedom, equality, and democracy for ALL because of our members and supporters like you.
We’re now just a little over a month away from perhaps the highest-stakes midterm elections ever and the Far Right’s extremism is supercharged like never before. We face threats to our democracy from a rising authoritarian movement that seeks to undermine truth, justice, and the American Way at every turn. And we have a Supreme Court majority that seems hellbent on turning back the clock on the fundamental rights that generations of Americans fought to secure.
Today marks the beginning of the Supreme Court’s new term and also the day that Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson takes her seat as the first Black woman to serve on our nation’s highest court.
We’re thrilled for Justice Jackson to begin her work on the Court and are deeply grateful for all the work of People For members like you that helped make this moment possible. With important cases in front of the Court this term that could determine the future of free and fair elections, LGBTQ+ equality, affirmative action, and more, Justice Jackson’s voice on the Court will be more important than ever. Her deep commitment to civil rights will provide light where the Court majority’s radical eagerness to strike down precedent and upend the foundational principles of our democracy has brought darkness.
Now buckle up as we head into another blockbuster Supreme Court term and the final stretch of the midterm election season. And stay tuned for exciting and impactful ways to be part of our growing movement, from opportunities to help get out the vote to the first convening of our brand new People For Book Club (this month, featuring Rep. Jamie Raskin’s book Unthinkable: Trauma, Truth, and the Trials of American Democracy).
