I was thrilled to watch President Biden sign the most sweeping climate
bill in the history of the United States into law. And it could not have
come at a more critical moment in the fight against catastrophic climate
change—with heat waves, superstorms, flooding, and more causing mass
devastation and death across the globe. Our survival depends on our
willingness to take action to fight climate change.

That is why it frightens me that a climate change denier is inches from
winning a seat in the United States Senate. In 2022.

His name is Ted Budd, and he is running to fill the open Senate seat in
North Carolina.

Budd is not just a climate action skeptic; he has earned himself top
honors as a member of the League of Conservation Voters' "Dirty Dozen"
list, with a whopping 0% score on their 2021 National Environmental
Scorecard, thanks to his atrocious voting record in the House of
Representatives.^1

Budd has gotten massive donations from oil and gas companies and
repeatedly voted to allow polluters to continue contaminating our air and
water. Heck, he has even voted against protecting people and the
environment from toxic "forever chemicals" known as PFAS.^2,3

the health and well-being of his constituents to take a seat in the
Senate. Which is why I'm asking you to help his Democratic opponent, Cheri

consequences are already being felt by the people of North Carolina. The
state has been devastated by multiple hurricanes in recent years, has
hundreds of miles of coastline at risk of being lost to sea-level rise,
and has at least 300,000 residents who are particularly vulnerable to the
extreme heat becoming more and more common across the state.

He voted against certifying the 2020 election, remains a proponent of
Donald Trump's Big Lie to this day, and called the deadly January 6
insurrection "just patriots standing up."^4

He has voted against the mildest of gun safety legislation.^5

He even voted against providing free COVID-19 testing and emergency aid to
families during the pandemic.^6

That is not the type of leadership the American people deserve.
