Friends,
It was only a few years ago that Louisiana had one of the highest rates of uninsured in the country. Far too many families couldn't afford a simple doctor's visit – or risked going bankrupt from a major illness.
At that time, we also had a high unemployment rate, a highest-in-the-nation incarceration rate, and a state budget left in shambles by Bobby Jindal, a governor more concerned with running for president than actually governing.
But upon assuming office in January of 2016, I was determined to put the state I love on a better track forward and to always put Louisianans first.
Over the last few years, we've done exactly that by:
-
Securing health insurance for over 450,000 hardworking Louisianans through Medicaid expansion.
-
Passing sweeping criminal justice reform to lower the incarceration rate and boost public safety.
-
Balancing the budget to put our state on solid financial footing.
-
Using settlement money from the BP oil spill to finance major infrastructure improvements.
-
Securing the first raise for public school teachers in a decade.
I'm proud of the progress we've made together, and I'm determined to win reelection so we can keep Louisiana moving forward. Unfortunately, my opponents in the race for governor have taken to belittling all we've accomplished – and they plan to dismantle that progress if they're elected.
We can't afford to send our state backward. Not again. But with my opponents spending big money to attack me, this will be a tough reelection campaign. That's why my team has set a goal to raise $5,000 by midnight, and we're counting on grassroots support from folks like you.
Please, friends, will you give just $5 to defend the progress we've made for Louisiana, win this reelection and keep our state moving forward?
Thank you,
Governor John Bel Edwards
