John,
I wanted to make sure this news doesn't get lost in the news or in your inbox because I know you care about refugees.
For the first time in recorded history, over 100 million people have been forced to flee their homes. For many, only one option is available for safely rebuilding their lives: refugee resettlement.
In the past year, America has successfully initiated not one—but two—historic responses to refugee displacement crises, in both Afghanistan and Ukraine, bringing tens of thousands of people to safety.
The government's response to these crises came as Americans showed support for Afghans and Ukrainans who were forced to flee their homes, welcoming them into communities across the country with open arms. America continues to demonstrate a spirit of welcome, and our leaders' commitments show that welcoming refugees is a core value, not a fleeting moment.
Now, the U.S. has just solidified its dedication to global refugee resettlement by committing to resettle 125,000 refugees over the next year. But achieving this goal will not be easy, and a lot of work is needed to make the goal a reality. The Biden administration must keep its promise to refugees and allow every one of the committed 125,000 to find safety, stability and security within our borders.
John, will you join me in thanking the Biden administration for setting an ambitious refugee goal and challenging his administration to meet that goal? »
Refugees today have fled crises like the civil war in Syria, the shift in power in Afghanistan, the war in Ukraine, and violence and instability in Central America. Without significant investment in U.S. resettlement infrastructure, the U.S. may fall short of its 125,000 goal — something that has occurred in the past and left refugees waiting to rebuild their lives.
John, compassionate IRC supporters like you can help the Biden administration understand how important it is to Americans across the country that the U.S. meet its own ambitions to welcome refugees.
Stand with refugees across the globe by taking action with me today.
Sincerely,
Melinda, IRC Advocacy |
