Once again, our democracy is under attack by the former president, his enablers, and perhaps most troubling, the judge overseeing the Mar-a-Lago search warrant challenge.
As has been widely reported, the Department of Justice lawfully obtained and executed a search warrant of Donald Trump’s residence at Mar-a-Lago, but things quickly veered off course in the murky environs of a federal courtroom in the Southern District of Florida. There, widely accepted legal precedent concerning criminal procedure, ownership of Presidential records, executive privilege, and national security were ignored in the rulings of Judge Aileen Cannon.
We explore the details and implications of this ongoing legal matter, in our latest Statement, and are grateful for the excellent work of our volunteer, attorney Marianne Meacham, who will help us continue to monitor and write about the issues raised. We hope you will share this widely and encourage others to step up and speak out to protect our democracy and the rule of law.
