Contact Congress About the USMCA!
On Thursday, December 19, 2019, the House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed the United-States-Mexico-Canada Agreement Implementation Act to approve and implement the USMCA regional integration scheme. Speaker Pelosi is now promising to immediately transmit the USMCA to the Senate. However, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell reiterated last week that the Senate would only consider the USMCA after it holds an impeachment trial sometime in January.
Despite McConnell’s comments, the Senate can consider the deal at any time now under the “fast track” Trade Promotion Authority. It’s becoming clearer that the impeachment trial is being used as a distraction to quietly pass the USMCA under the table. Time is quickly running out so we must continue to ramp up the pressure to get Congress to vote no on the USMCA.
JBS Research Project Manager Christian Gomez just recently published our most recent article containing the most up to date information about the USMCA. We urge you to read this article as well as checking out our USMCA Action Tools. Please contact your Senator via the phone, email and Twitter.
