While extremists wish to deny the right to vote, we traveled to Houston last week to join the legal community and defend every Texan's right to cast a ballot freely and fairly. At the Inaugural Sissy Farenthold Social Justice Award Ceremony and Reception, we honored Representative Senfronia Thompson -- the longest-serving woman and African-American legislator in Texas history -- for her illustrious career of fighting for justice, equality, and opportunity for all. This inaugural event establishes an annual tradition supporting voter protection efforts statewide in the legacy of Sissy Farenthold.

Friend, Sissy’s and Rep. Thompson’s example serves as inspiration for us to continue the tireless fight of protecting our most fundamental freedoms -- and at the center of those freedoms is the right to vote. That’s why Texas Democrats are dedicated to ensuring that every eligible Texan is able to cast their vote, and have that vote counted.
