Jack,
The Trump administration’s new plan to dramatically reform SNAP benefits could threaten food security for families across the country.
The new rule would tighten work requirements for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), which will cut hundreds of thousands of Americans from food stamps this holiday season. Basically, work requirements for SNAP would mean that if you’re hungry and can’t find a job, you, your family, and your children are out of luck.
Combating food insecurity is a deeply personal matter to me. I first became involved with the local school board when a concerned mom demanded more help for our students who experience food insecurity. I ended up running for school board and now am School Board President. SNAP plays a critical role in addressing hunger and food insecurity and is one of the most successful programs ever created by the federal government.
Washington should focus on reducing food insecurity, providing more good-paying jobs, and ensuring a livable wage instead of cutting benefits for Americans who are struggling the most.
Will you join us in demanding that President Trump reverse this cruel policy and stop any future cuts to SNAP? We need to fight for our children and families in Wisconsin. Compassion must prevail.
