Working Families Party

John,

This is a slightly longer email than usual, but I hope you’ll take a few minutes to read it all the way through.

A little over a year ago, I had the honor of stepping into the role of Working Families Party National Director. I couldn’t be more thrilled with what we’ve accomplished so far.

Together, we’ve taken on powerful interests, made sure working people are at the center of our national debate, and won hundreds of inspiring victories in every corner of the country.

Your support has been absolutely essential to each one of these successes. Now, with the curtain closing on 2019 in a matter of days, I’m asking if you’ll stand with us once more so we can go into the new year as strong as possible.

Can you make an end-of-year donation — of any amount — to the Working Families Party before our biggest deadline of the year? All donations before 12/31 will be matched by a generous donor.

These next few days leading up to the new year are huge for us. Whether we are able to hit our end-of-year fundraising goal or not will set the tone — and our budget — for 2020, one of the most monumental election years in any of our lifetimes.

Now, I know that people say that every four years. But next year will TRULY be the most important election in recent memory.

Immigrant children are being ripped from their parents' arms and put in cages. White supremacists like Stephen Miller are dictating policy from the White House. Republicans have packed the courts with right-wing judges. A massive tax giveaway for the super-rich and big corporations has put wealth inequality on steroids.

At the same time, we have also seen how the power of the people can accomplish amazing things.

Over the last three years, we’ve seen rising social movements render the invisible visible and make the impossible possible, from the Movement for Black Lives to #MeToo. We’ve seen mass mobilizations of people literally taking to the streets to hold our elected officials accountable. We’ve seen the political discourse change and ideas like a Green New Deal and Medicare for All become mainstream ideas supported by elected officials at all levels of government.

That is the magic of people power. The Working Families Party exists to turn this people power into power at the ballot box.

That’s what we did in 2019, bringing together organizers, organizations and supporters and electing a slate of hundreds of WFP progressive champions up and down the ballot — city by city and state by state.

In Philadelphia, public school activist and WFP candidate Kendra Brooks made history by becoming the first third-party candidate to ever win a council seat in that city. In New York, a new class of state legislators has passed driver’s licenses for undocumented immigrants, rent reform, and groundbreaking climate change legislation. In Chicago, a strong progressive caucus rallied alongside teachers in their victorious strike.

Our successes this year show that we win when we organize. We win when we mobilize and we expand the electorate. We win when we come together as working people, across our differences, to take on the forces that seek to divide and destroy us.

I want the Working Families Party to be the political home for this kind of multiracial mass movement — a movement we need if we are going to transform our country and save our world. A movement rooted in radical solidarity, generosity, and love. One that rejects the false choice between racial justice and economic justice, and that fights just as hard to end mass incarceration as it does to make healthcare a right.

If you’re with me, I’m asking if you’ll recommit to this mission by making an end-of-year contribution to the Working Families Party now. Your donation — of any amount — will not only help us reach our last and most important fundraising goal of the year, it will send a message that together, we are ready to go into 2020 and WIN.

We are no longer at a point where we’re talking about a turning point in history. This is the turning point.

I’m so grateful to be in this fight alongside you.

In Solidarity,

Maurice Mitchell
National Director
Working Families Party
