Yesterday marked the somber anniversary of the worst mass shooting in modern U.S. history, John. Five years have passed since the tragedy in Las Vegas, yet our leaders have failed to get assault weapons off our streets, so we're renewing our call for action. Will you join us by signing our petition to ban assault weapons? We're extending the deadline to midnight tonight.
The details are chilling. In a little over 10 minutes, one person shot hundreds of unsuspecting concertgoers from over 1,000 feet away, killing nearly 60 people. The reason that this event was so deadly is simple: The shooter used an arsenal of assault weapons to carry it out.

It's been five long years since that event, yet Congress has taken no action to remove assault weapons from our communities. This is unconscionable. We know these weapons of war make mass shootings far deadlier — it’s why mass shooters intentionally choose assault weapons time and again.

It's time to break this devastating pattern, John. So today, in honor of those who were murdered with assault rifles in Las Vegas and in the years since, we're extending our deadline to get 5,000 committed gun safety champions to sign our petition to ban assault weapons. Will you add your name now and urge Congress to take action banning assault weapons now?
