This week, Gov. Jim Justice made several stops across West Virginia to greet constituents and discuss the his proposal to reduce West Virginia's Personal Income Tax, and his opposition to Amendment 2.

Gov. Justice debuts Cranberry Corridor as newest route of West Virginia’s Mountain Rides program ([link removed])

Gov. Justice held a ceremony Wednesday to announce the newest scenic route of the Mountain Rides program – Cranberry Corridor ([link removed]) – a spectacular loop that will take travelers across 211.1 miles of the central and eastern portions of the state. Cranberry Corridor marks the third route of the West Virginia Mountain Rides program, a collaborative partnership between the West Virginia Department of Transportation and the West Virginia Department of Tourism to designate and promote the Mountain State’s most scenic country roads.

Gov. Justice declares State of Preparedness ahead of Hurricane Ian ([link removed])

Ahead of the rainfall expected as the remnants of Hurricane Ian sweep up from the southern states, Gov. Justice declared a State of Preparedness for all 55 West Virginia counties on Friday afternoon. The State of Preparedness allows the West Virginia Emergency Management Division (WVEMD) to posture personnel and resources for quick response to any emergency that may develop. Coordinating agencies have been placed on standby to report to the State Emergency Operations Center should the need arise.

Gov. Justice and West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection held an event Friday in Matoaka to announce 21 West Virginia communities will receive over $9.2 million in grant funding to remove abandoned and dilapidated structures across West Virginia.

During the event, Gov. Justice led the ceremonial countdown to knock down a dilapidated house.

Gov. Justice announces $13.8 million to complete new Marshall baseball stadium ([link removed])

Gov. Justice announced Thursday a $13.8 million contribution to Marshall University to help fund the completion of the school's baseball stadium. Since Marshall University opened its doors in 1896, it has never had an on-campus baseball stadium to accommodate student athletes. Instead, players and teams have been displaced to various locations around the state to play games including Kennedy Center Field at the YMCA in Huntington, Appalachian Power Park in Charleston, and Epling Stadium in Beckley.

WVDOH continues paving campaign; awards $6 million in paving contracts ([link removed])

The West Virginia Division of Highways announced the award of seven new paving contracts worth more than $6 million on Thursday as a statewide paving campaign continues.

Paving contracts awarded included:
* 29th Street Road in Huntington
* Daniels to Grandview Road in Raleigh County
* Georgetown Road in Lewis County
* Cove Road in Hancock County
* Peach Tree Orchard to Muddlety in Nicholas County
* Parkersburg Pond Run Trail and Bridge
* Between Normantown and Glenville Road

West Virginia honored for increasing number of girls in CS classes ([link removed])

West Virginia is among the top states in the country actively closing the gender gap in computer science classes. As a result, the state was recognized for its progress at the annual Computer Science Education Conference hosted recently in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. West Virginia earned recognition for the highest increase in participation of young women in computer science classes.

Work moving along on Carrollton Covered Bridge restoration project ([link removed])

West Virginia Division of Highways bridge crews in Barbour County are making good progress on the restoration of the Carrollton Covered Bridge, which was badly damaged by a fire in 2017. They hope to complete restoration work on the bridge by the spring of 2023.
