Hillsdale professor of politics, Thomas G. West is one of the great scholars and teachers of the American Founding and the author of The Political Theory of the American Founding and Vindicating the Founders.
In this new course, Dr. West sits down with his former student and current professor at Hillsdale’s Graduate School of Government, David Azerrad, to reveal the truth about the American Founding.
As Dr. West explains, the Founders’ political theory is so foreign to Americans today—even to scholars and teachers of American history and politics—that the task of uncovering the truth about the Founding is like unearthing something from a “deep and long-forgotten pit.”
This course goes about this task by examining the primary arguments and decisions of the Founders, and it brings their theory to life by comparing it to the dominant views of contemporary America.
The result is an exciting, and often surprising, account of how the Founders established a free government in America and what they thought was necessary to sustain it.
