Earlier this week, Lila shared the story of a mother, Serena, who had an abortion, and her painful journey to healing.

When I was younger, I also had an abortion. For too long, I buried my secret and never told a soul what had happened to me - and my baby - in that “clinic.”

Once you’ve broken the bond of life, once you’ve ignored that little voice inside of you, you are a lot more likely to do it again. So, when I got pregnant again, I went right back and got another abortion. This only made my pain worse.

My abortions solved nothing. They did nothing to make my life better, despite all the promises that it would, and despite the assurances of sunnier days ahead. No one tells you about that.

Thankfully, like Serena, I’ve since discovered the peace and healing so many with experiences like mine desperately need.

Our recently released “Can’t Stay Silent” campaign amplifies the accounts of abortion regret and trauma and gives pro-life advocates tools to support those most intimately impacted by abortion.

It is our duty and privilege to spread these stories for four reasons:

- It helps those who have had abortions to learn about the resources available to them for healing,
- It helps others who have post-abortion trauma and regret to have the courage to speak out about the truth behind abortion,
- It helps those considering abortion to embrace life,
- It helps those who do not have experience with abortion to speak more compassionately and therefore more effectively about abortion.

Contrary to what the media portrays, abortion doesn't keep any of its positive-sounding promises. Abortion not only ends the life of a child; it hurts mothers and fathers as well. Our society deserves better.

These stories are a necessary component of exposing the lies and building a culture that embraces life. They encourage families to show the devastating effects of abortion, reveal the healing available to those in need, teach true compassion for all impacted by abortion, and save innocent children from being killed.

Each testimony proves that hope and love can prevail even amid the most devastating loss.
