LCA's undercover investigation photo of Beagles inside a research laboratory
Dear John,
BIG NEWS! The Senate recently unanimously passed the bipartisan FDA Modernization Act (now it goes to the House). The Act would end mandated animal testing in new drug development. There is an outdated FDA mandate that experimental drugs must be tested on animals before they are used on humans in clinical trials.
The FDA Modernization Act 2.0 (S. 5002) was introduced by Senators Rand Paul, R-KY, and Cory Booker, D-NJ, with 10 other cosponsors. Once passed, it will finally allow drug developers the option to submit new drugs for market approval without animal testing.
"This is the biggest policy development in Congressional history on the fight to replace animal testing with morally and scientifically superior methods," said Senator Rand Paul.
Animal testing is cruel and ineffective. Many studies have shown that medications approved for human use - after animal testing - later proved ineffective or harmful to humans in clinical trials.
We have been fighting against animal testing since LCA was founded in 1984. To end the accusation that animal rights groups fabricate stories about animal research laboratories, in the late 80's, we took a camera crew into UCLA's Brain Research Institute, where cats were being used as research subjects. The horrific truth of animal research was exposed.
Please share this good news with friends and family!
For the animals,
The LCA Team
