I hate to come to you like this today, folks. But our finance team just let me know we missed our quarterly fundraising goal for September.

Every missed goal in the homestretch toward November is a missed opportunity to invest in Get-Out-The-Vote resources. It also means more budget cuts. Fewer staff. And less time on the airwaves.

Here’s some good news: We may have missed our mark, but if we can raise another $5,000 before midnight tonight, we can still make up this shortfall and stay on track to send Senator John Kennedy packing. Can I count on every grassroots donor reading this email to chip in a few bucks?

Look, I’ve said it before: defeating Kennedy won’t be easy. But if we work hard enough over the next 38 days and hit every fundraising goal, we can pull this off.

This election is about accountability. It’s about saving the future of our democracy and bringing responsible leadership to Washington. The last thing we need is to fall short of our fundraising goals and give Kennedy another six-year term in the Senate.
