We must act now to secure a safer climate future. A few recent examples show how climate change is making extreme weather more frequent and more destructive:

# NOAA is predicting another above-normal Atlantic hurricane season, with three to five Category 3 or worse storms, like hurricane Ian that brought deadly, damaging flooding and winds to Florida and other areas this week.
# According to the National Interagency Fire Center, this year more than 52,000 wildfires have burned over 6.8 million acres across 15 states, destroying lives, homes, habitat and health.
# A new heat model by First Street Foundation predicts 8.1 million people will experience dangerous temperatures over 125°F in 2023, largely concentrated in the “extreme heat belt” stretching from Texas and Louisiana to as far north as Wisconsin.
# According to the EPA, Alaska is warming more than twice as fast as the global average. This warming is thawing permafrost, decreasing Arctic sea ice, increasing wildfires and threatening the livelihoods of native Alaskans.
# Hawai’i has recorded the rate of sea level rise increasing to 1 inch every 4 years over the past decade, leading to chronic coastal flooding, which damages homes, cultural sites, businesses, infrastructure and ecosystems.

By joining forces with committed EDF members, we can start to turn the tide on the deadly effects of climate change people are feeling today. With your support, we can accelerate the transition to clean energy and slash climate pollution to help stop these disasters.

The tireless efforts of EDF members helped secure the most ambitious federal climate legislation in U.S. history. The Inflation Reduction Act allocates $369 billion to clean energy and climate solutions, including:

# A nationwide program to reduce methane emissions – the fastest way to slow the rate of climate change today.
# More than $135 billion for clean energy tax credits to ramp up solar and wind power. This could save households $500 a year in energy costs.
# Tax incentives to help jumpstart adoption of electric vehicles.
# $60 billion for environmental justice — assisting communities that have long borne the brunt of environmental pollution.
# $21 billion to help U.S. farmers and rural communities cut pollution and make food production more resilient to climate impacts we can’t avoid.
# $2.6 billion to make coastal regions more resilient in the face of extreme weather and sea-level rise.

Your support as a member will help us ensure this historic law is implemented in the most efficient and equitable way possible. Together, we can ensure a vital Earth for all and achieve net zero climate pollution across the entire U.S. economy by 2050.

As we kick off our fall membership drive, activate your membership to make this ambitious vision possible:
