Did you know that many military and veteran families often forgo holiday celebrations due to the cost? That's right. Our military and veteran families often go without a Christmas or other holiday celebration due to the financial burden it can cause for their families. Many families live on a tight budget and providing gifts or a holiday meal can be difficult, if not impossible. But with your help, we can all come together to ensure service members and veterans are able to provide a memorable holiday for their families. Soldiers' Angels Holiday Adopt-A-Family program connects eligible families of deployed service members; families of Post 9-11 wounded, ill, and injured service members and veterans; as well as veteran families enrolled in the HUD/VASH program; with individuals, organizations, and businesses interested in adopting them for the holiday season. Can you adopt one or more military or veteran families for the holidays? If so, keep reading. What Is Adopt-A-Family?Soldiers' Angels Adopt-A-Family program screens eligible military and veteran families and puts them up for "adoption" during the holidays. These families are facing financial hardships due to deployment, low income, or ongoing health issues.Adopters will be able to choose a family and view the wish list from their children. They will then provide one gift for each child as well as a gift card for the family to put towards their holiday meal. What Do I Need to Do?If you are an individual, you will need to register as a Soldiers' Angels Team Angel first and then join the Adopt-A-Family Team to begin your adoption process. If you are a business, you will need to register as a Business by completing a temporary Team Angel profile. This business profile will only be valid through January 30, 2023 in order to complete the adoption program and file the necessary reports. Once registered, businesses can search the database and select families. Please only adopt as many families as you think you can support. What Can I Expect to Spend? For each family adopted, you are asked to provide a minimum of one $50-$100 food gift card towards a holiday meal (food gift card cost will vary depending on the size of the family) and gifts for each child, age of 18 or under, living at home in the amount of $35-$50. The gifts, along with the gift card for the holiday meal, must be shipped no later than December 16, 2022, using trackable mail delivery, to your adopted family and received prior to the Christmas holidays. If you are in the local area of the family you have adopted, you may meet and exchange the gifts, but we ask that it not be at either your home or the military family’s home for your safety and theirs.
