Sign the welcome home card for newly freed former prisoners

John–

For the first time in 19 years, Lonnie and Lyle Jones are home with their families for the holidays. Just last year, the two brothers were serving life sentences for drug offenses, with little hope of ever coming home. Now, they are celebrating with their families after being freed by the First Step Act. Tens of thousands of others have been released early from federal prison this year.

But Lonnie and Lyle say they “won’t be complete” until everyone serving an unjust sentence is home too–and it’s important to show how many people stand alongside them.

Just in time for the holidays, we’re sending a Welcome Home card to promise to never stop fighting to close prison doors and unlock doors of opportunities. Sign a card and we’ll deliver it to people freed under the First Step Act.

The First Step Act showed us that when we unite unlikely allies in the spirit of deep patriotism to stick up for marginalized people, we can deliver real change even in divided times–that’s what the Dream Corps and our programs #cut50, Green for All, and Tech are all about.

Just ask Susie Smith. Susie was freed under the First Step Act after almost a decade behind bars. But her two sons are still serving life sentences. Susie won’t give up until her whole family is home for the holidays – and our Welcome Home cards will promise we won’t give up, either.

Right now, there are people sharing hot food and laughter with their loved ones instead of sitting in a cold, dark cell. Don’t let anyone tell you the world is too broken for us to make progress. That’s what Dream Corps is all about.

Thanks for everything you do,
The Dream Corps Team

P.S. As we near the end of 2019, our plans for 2020 are rapidly ramping up. Can you chip in before the end of the year to help power our progress through next year and beyond?
