Hi John,

This week has been dreaded by millions around the UK. Despite limited government intervention, energy prices will rise to even more unaffordable rates today, with almost 7 million households expected to fall into poverty. [1] Can you sign the urgent petition demanding Liz Truss keep people warm this winter?

Liz Truss has made it clear who her government intends to work for—attacking benefit claimants while removing the cap on bankers bonuses, going full-speed ahead on new oil and gas projects while refusing to properly tax oil and gas companies’ record profits.

The Truss government is focused on making the rich even richer, while people and the planet are expected to pay up. Even their so-called “energy cap” only caps the cost per unit - not the total cost - so actual bills could easily exceed £2,500 if you use more than the “average” household. [2]

We need to protect people, not Big Oil’s profits. Can you join us and call on Liz Truss to take proper action right now?

People are taking action today to send a message to Truss: put people first. From industrial action, to demonstrations across the UK, you can find a list of ways to participate in this helpful Twitter thread from Fuel Poverty Action: [link removed]

With a government who have so blatantly shown their plans to protect the interests of the rich and powerful, it’s time for the mass mobilisation of people who will be impacted by Truss’ harmful policy agenda. Whether it’s signing a petition or attending a demonstration today, every action matters—I hope you’ll join the fight to demand our government keeps people warm this winter.

In solidarity,

Miranda & the Oil team
