Governor Mike DeWine Week in Review

"For the week ending July 27, 2019"

*OnMonday,*Governor DeWinedeclared a state of emergency in 63 Ohio counties where severe weather caused serious highway damage last month.The 63 counties covered by theemergency declaration [ [link removed] ] have suffered damage to roads and/or bridges from significant weather events in June that began with mild temperatures and significant rains which thoroughly saturated the ground causing dangerous roadway damage. Some roadways still have lane restrictions or are closed completely.

*Also on Monday,*Governor DeWine signed the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation biennial budget into law,providing $15 million to assist employers in hiring, managing, and retaining workers in recovery, expanding the Substance Use Recovery and Workplace Safety Program, and adding an additional $40 million for workplace safety for several BWC programs, including the Ohio Law Enforcement Body Armor Program.

*On Tuesday*, Governor DeWine signed House Bill 6, the energy bill passed by the Ohio Senate and Ohio House of Representatives.

*On Wednesday,*Governor DeWine opened the Ohio State Fair [ [link removed] ] by participating in a ceremonial ribbon cutting. He and First Lady Fran DeWine also spent time touring the fairgrounds and meeting fairgoers. The Ohio State Fair [ [link removed] ] runs from July 24 to Aug. 4, 2019.

*On Thursday,*Governor DeWine and Lt. Governor Jon Husted held a special meeting with cabinet members at the Ohio State Fair.During the meeting, FFA students talked about projects they're working on.

*Following Thursday's meeting,*Lt. Governor Jon Husted, Tina Husted, and their daughter Kylie took in the sights of this years events. The Husteds stopped by the Ohio agriculture building and learned about the way technology has become an integrated part of farming in Ohio, and they went fishing in the Department of Natural Resources pond.

*Also on Thursday*, Governor DeWine planted a Northern Red Oak tree in Governors Grove at the Natural Resources Park, making him the seventh Ohio governor to add a tree to the grove.

*On Friday,* Governor DeWine, First Lady DeWine, and several of their grandkids woke up at the Ohio State Fair after spending the night [ [link removed] ] at the Natural Resources Park. The tradition of governors overnighting at the Ohio State Fair was started by former Governor James A. Rhodes.
