Statement on Iran's lethal crackdown on women's rights protesters

“The George W. Bush Institute condemns the killings of several dozen protesters demonstrating against the heinous death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini, who fell into a coma after being detained by Iran’s ‘morality police.’ We mourn for Amini, the protesters, and their families.

“The rights to free speech, assembly, and protest are fundamental and universal. The people of Iran, who have lived under the suffocating leadership of the Ayatollah and his thugs, are showing they want to live freely, dress however they want, and say whatever they believe. They are courageously exercising those rights despite the brutal tactics of the Iranian regime."

– Holly Kuzmich, Executive Director of the Bush Institute
