MassGOP "No on 4" outreach events attracting volunteers statewide as ballot campaign works to overturn law granting driver's licenses to illegal immigrants

MassGOP Chairman Jim Lyons: "Massachusetts voters will be the ones deciding whether those who broke our laws by entering the country illegally are deserving of a driver's license, and not the Beacon Hill establishment."

WOBURN -- Massachusetts Republican Party Chairman Jim Lyons and the ballot committee spearheading a referendum to overturn the law granting driver's licenses to illegals connected this week, launching the first of a series of workshops aimed at training volunteers how to successfully canvass their neighborhoods on the issue.

"We held our first meet-up in Westford on Tuesday night and the response has been incredibly positive," Lyons said. "People are rightfully outraged that the Democrats and our own Attorney General Maura Healey are trying to exploit our failed immigration system by granting licenses to illegals.

"The folks who joined us Tuesday don't want the Democrats to get away with this scheme, and they're ready to go out and stop them."

A second session was held in Fitchburg on Thursday.

The events, which will be happening on a weekly basis between now and Election Day, feature advice on door-to-door canvassing. Volunteers receive literature along with a list of 25 "swing voter" households in their community to visit.

"The pitch is simple," Lyons said. "We think that granting Massachusetts driver's licenses to illegal immigrants is reckless, and radical incentives like this will only exacerbate the problem of illegal immigration rather than fix it."
