The Biden Administration Once Again Ignores the Voices of Central Washington

Unscientific Report Calls For Breaching the Four Lower Snake River Dams

Earlier today, the Biden Administration released their final report on “Rebuilding Interior Columbia Basin Salmon and Steelhead” which calls for the four Lower Snake River dams to be removed with no new science to back up their reasoning.

To say I'm disappointed is an understatement. The Biden Administration has once again ignored the input and voices of the men and women who depend on the dams for their livelihoods. Additionally, they ignored the data showing Spring and Summer chinook returns were at the highest level they have been at in years.

I will continue to fight to save our dams through effective, science-based solutions and continue to educate my colleagues that dams and fish do coexist.

Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions' 2022 Clean Energy Champion

This week, I was honored to be named Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions’ (CRES) 2022 Clean Energy Champion as we celebrate National Clean Energy Week. From September 26 to September 30, we recognize our nation’s clean energy advancements and technologies that continue to move us towards a clean energy future.

Central Washington is no stranger to clean energy and continues to lead the country in clean energy innovations with our solar and wind farms, hydroelectric dams, and the Pacific Northwest’s only nuclear power plant.

In Congress, I have secured funding for future clean energy developments and research and championed the Hydropower Clean Energy Future Act which encourages new hydropower development so communities across the nation can enjoy clean, reliable, efficient, and affordable power.

I am proud to represent such an energy-diverse district that continues to pave the way for a clean energy future, and I will continue to advocate for clean energy solutions.

We Need Ag Labor Reform Now!

Food prices across the nation continue to rise as agriculture producers face a labor shortage crisis.

I spoke at the International Fresh produce Association's conference this week to talk about the importance of my legislation, the Farm Workforce Modernization Act, which will address these labor shortages. Families and farmers across the United States need relief—I am determined to get this legislation over the finish line.

Supporting Our Nation's Farmers

wheat.jpg

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission's (SEC) proposed climate rules are a major government overreach and would create unnecessary burdens for farmers, making it nearly impossible to farm. The proposed rule would effectively force publicly traded companies to require small, independent, family farms to report on-farm data regarding individual operations and day-to-day activities, hindering the ability of American farmers and ranchers to operate.

I introduced the Protect Farmers from the SEC Act this week to ensure our farmers and ranchers can continue to do their jobs without necessary burdens. Our farmers need our support now more than ever, and this legislation will give them the help they need to feed America.

Protecting Our National and Food Security

Our national security is at risk—the Communist Chinese Party (CCP) has been buying American farmland across the country, especially near our military bases. Not only is our national security at risk, but our food security is as well.

That is why I wrote a letter to the Biden Administration demanding they take immediate action to address these national security risks. These acquisitions are only expected to increase over the next few years.

I will continue to raise the alarm about this serious issue that threatens the future of our country and work to pass my legislation, the Prohibition of Agricultural Land for the People’s Republic of China Act, which would immediately ban China from purchasing any more U.S. agricultural land
