Thank you for your continued support of Campaign for Accountability. We're dedicated to continue working to hold the powerful accountable.
This week:
* Google Serves Anti-Abortion Clinic Ads that Violate its Policies: Yesterday, the Tech Transparency Project (TTP) released a report ([link removed]) showing how Google is serving misleading ads for so-called crisis pregnancy centers to users searching for information about how to get an abortion. These ads appear to violate Google’s policy on misrepresentation, which prohibits ads that “deceive users” by “providing misleading information about products, services, or businesses—raising questions about Google’s vetting process for ads on its platform.
+ The report was covered exclusively by Bloomberg ([link removed]) , then picked up by CNET ([link removed]) , and The Register ([link removed]) later in the day.
* "Immigrants Are Falling Prey to Social Media": On Wednesday, The World aired a piece featuring an interview ([link removed]) with TTP director Katie Paul on how online misinformation—both intentional and unintentional—is allowing migrants to fall prey to human smuggler scams. Platforms like Facebook Marketplace are rife with "coyotes" advertising their services, and Facebook has done little to intervene.
+ This follows a TTP report ([link removed]) published earlier this month which showed the many ways that human smugglers use Facebook, WhatsApp, and TikTok to reach and take advantage of desperate migrants.
